An opportunity to optimize the plasticizing system when using and obtaining polymer composites with the addition of glass fibers, talc, carbon fibers, chalk and wood flour.

The international NEWEX project in which ZAMAK MERCATOR participates is gaining momentum. During the next stage, which took place in our production plant (Skawina), the model of the rotating sleeve. As part of the project, there was a presentation led by Mr. M.Eng. Sławomir Knapik - the main designer, titled "A ready-to-use model of the rotary sleeve segment obtained thanks to rapid prototyping and its final appearance." The presentation discusses the stages of designing manufacturing processes using conventional techniques compared to the stages of designing computer-aided CAD / CAM manufacturing processes. It turned out that the sleeve element made using a CNC machine not only shortens the time necessary to design and manufacture, but also results in a very accurate detail whose use in low-volume production would be much longer if it were designed and made using traditional methods.

Having the pleasure of hosting scientists from the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia) and the University of Minho (Portugal) regarding the latest achievements of the NEWEX project, ZAMAK MERCATOR also presented materials testing during their extrusion on a 2x24 laboratory extruder. Assessing the obtained material after extrusion, the participants delved into the discussion on optimization of the plasticizing system dedicated to the preparation of polymer composites, with a high degree of filling with such additives as: glass fiber, talc, carbon fiber, chalk, wood flour, glass balls, metal powders, modifiers impact strength, flame retardants, polymer powders, nanoadditives. As a result of lively discussion, the thesis was put forward that the degree of filling can be up to 85% depending on the additive used.

The next meeting of science representatives and business representatives confirms the need for close cooperation between such units, because it enables quick confrontation of theses and ideas of scientists with real technical issues with which the entity designing and making machines for plastics and rubber processing encounters on a daily basis.
